A zip screen is an exterior shading system in which the fabric edges remain locked inside side channels. This guided structure helps the fabric stay tensioned while moving up and down, creating a clean façade line and improved resistance to wind compared with conventional roller blinds.
How the zip mechanism works
The screen fabric is connected to a zipper-like edge profile. As the motor moves the fabric, these edges travel inside aluminium side channels. The cassette protects the rolled fabric at the top, while the bottom bar keeps the surface tensioned.
Where zip screens are used
Vertical zip screens are commonly used on balconies, terraces, windows, pergola sides, restaurants and commercial façades. Fabric openness, colour and motor choice should be matched to solar exposure, privacy expectations and project dimensions.
